Introducing Mackenzie
Hello! I’m Mackenzie, a Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) puppy. I was born June 13 to my beautiful mommy, Margie. I have 4 sisters (Mia III, Mallory IV, Miranda III, and Macey) and 3 brothers (Mosie II, Monty VII, and Magic VII). We are Golden Retrievers. Each CCI litter is assigned a different letter of the alphabet. We are an “M” litter, giving us all names that start with “M”. Those of us with Roman Numerals after our names are successors of the original name, meaning we are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, so on, of that name used by CCI.
Canine Companions for Independence
Canine Companions for Independence provides service dogs free of charge to adults, children, and veterans with disabilities. CCI trains 4 different types of service dogs: Service Dog for adults with physical disabilities; Skilled Companion for children and adults with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities; Hearing Dog for the deaf or hard of hearing; Facility Dog to work with clients with special needs in a visitation, education, criminal justice or health care setting. The training takes over 2 years! I can’t wait to see which path I take!
About me
Currently, I am 4 weeks old. I just found out that I will be moving from the Golden State of CA to the Sunshine State of FL in August. West Coast to East Coast! I will be living with a great family for approximately 18 months while I learn all of my basic commands. I will be this family’s 4th puppy they’ve raised. My mom, Margie, is actually the Aunt of the 2nd dog they raised! Isn’t that neat?
For now, I am enjoying playtimes with my brothers and sisters and getting a lot of attention from our Breeder Caretaker. We just started eating solid food and are just starting to venture outside to play!
You can follow my journey here and at facebook.com/CanineCompanionsPuppyRaising.
I am so excited to be a part of the Canine Companions Family! I’m looking forward to all the adventures to come!
