My Little Debbie Christmas Party Favors have been so popular on Pinterest I decided to branch out and try some fall treats. It is so easy to customize and be really creative with these.
This time I wanted to make something that I could give out to kids with some food allergies. That meant no gluten or dairy. I decided to try incorporating small applesauce cups. It worked out perfectly. These scarecrows are so cute!
I made both the scarecrows and turkeys with craft supplies we already had at the house. If you don’t have some of the supplies, everything but the food can be found at Hobby Lobby or Amazon.
Materials
- Applesauce cups
- Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies
- Wiggly eyes
- Black or brown Sharpie marker
- Small red buttons
- Black and brown craft foam
- Orange craft felt
- Fall feathers
- Natural Raffia
- Orange and red construction paper (or craft felt)
- Scissors
- Low heat glue gun
Scarecrow Fall Treats
To make the applesauce scarecrows I cut out some little black hats and some raffia. I first hot glued the raffia to the edge of the applesauce cup. Then glued the hat to the raffia. Make sure the raffia is long enough to stick out from the hat.
Next, I glued down the wiggly eyes and nose. Then I drew on the face lines. You can really get creative by using different colors and different sized eyes and noses.
So all my scarecrows weren’t the same, I changed up the look for this guy. He has a different color and shape for his hat. Instead of wiggly eyes, his are just drawn on and he also has cute button cheeks.
For this scarecrow, I hot glued the raffia onto the hat first. Just make sure the raffia doesn’t cover the face too much. I had to trim mine a bit. Before gluing the hat onto the applesauce cup I glued down the buttons and nose and drew on the face. Then I added the hat.
Again, get creative with different colors and sizes!
Turkey Fall Favor
Next, I made some oatmeal pie turkeys. I started by cutting the beak and wattle out of construction paper. You could use craft felt, too. Then I glued the feathers to the back of the oatmeal pie. Be careful not to melt the plastic!
Then I turned over my turkey and glued on the wiggly eyes, beak, and wattle. You could get creative with bigger or uneven eyes. Or even different color feathers. Since I was working with what I already had at home, I had to make do with small eyes. I think larger eyes would be super cute though!
Like my Little Debbie Christmas Party Favors, these are sure to be a hit at your school, work, or Fall gatherings.
If making these with children, please use extreme caution with the hot glue gun. Even a low-temperature glue gun can burn skin. An adult should always supervise.
