I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit many different places in the grand USA, but there are still some places I would love to see. This country is full of unique landscapes and natural beauty. My wanderlust always draws me to these types of locations. I love to behold God’s beautiful creation. Below is my personal USA travel Bucket List – the top 5 places I long to see. I can’t wait to cross these awe-inspiring destinations off my bucket list. I hope it inspires you to go, too!
1 – Alaska
“The Last Frontier” is at the top of my list for its breathtaking and majestic landscapes. This spectacular state, the largest US state, is full of unique natural wonders. One of the grandest views is the tallest mountain in the USA, Denali. Alaska is a photographer’s dreamland. It is full of mesmerizing landscapes including mountains, glaciers, fjords, forests, coastline, and islands. Alaska is wild, unspoiled, and magnificent. And, don’t forget the extraordinary wildlife. There are endless possibilities to view bears, moose, eagles, and whales. Alaska is an outdoor paradise – a perfect destination for adventurers and explorers.
2 – Hawaii
Hawaii seems to be on most people’s travel bucket list. And, why not? Hawaii is the only US state composed entirely of islands, but no Hawaiian island is like another. You will see amazing sea cliffs, colorful beaches, crystal blue waters, stunning waterfalls, and stark volcanic landscapes. There’s also rich culture and history to explore. Hawaii has some of the best weather in the country, with relatively steady temperatures around the mid-70s to mid-80s year-round. Visit Hawaii and you will experience the “Aloha Spirit”.
3 – Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is an astounding 3,500 square mile national park – the very first national park in the USA and the world! It is a true wonderland full of dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs, incredible waterfalls, and gushing geysers. The vast wilderness is home to the largest concentration of wildlife in the USA. There is a very good chance to see bears, wolves, bison, elk, and antelope in their natural habitat.
But, if that’s not enough, just to the south is Grand Teton National Park. While Yellowstone is known for its geothermal natural wonders, Grand Teton offers a peaceful mountain experience. The combination of their photographic natural beauty should not be missed.
4 – Maine – Acadia National Park
The highlights of experiencing Maine can be crammed into one location – Acadia National Park. You will see diverse landscapes of mountains, woodlands, and rocky beaches. The highest peak on the North Atlantic seaboard, Cadillac Mountain, is located here. There are activities for everyone – hiking, biking, boating, wildlife viewing, dining, and shopping. But, if you don’t want to stay only in Acadia, head inland to see the endless forests, striking mountains, and unspoiled rivers and lakes. Visiting the unlimited supply of small, charming towns and historic lighthouses will round out the Maine experience.
Alyson and her family visited Acadia National Park in September of 2019. You can read about their adventures in our post 15 Day New England Roadtrip Part 3: Maine.
5 – Pacific Coast Road Trip
One of the most scenic road trips in the USA is driving along the Pacific Coast. You start in the green forests of Washington, then continue through the peaceful Oregon coast, followed by the redwood forests of northern California, and end with the gorgeous beaches of southern California. You will see some of the most dramatic coastal vistas, but also some of the most energizing cities including Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The most enticing thing about driving the Pacific Coast is that you can drive for miles and have the scenery all to yourself.
Do you keep a Bucket List of places you’d like to visit and explore? If not, I strongly encourage you to write one. But, don’t just write it down – GO!
